The complexities of family and identity are explored in this thoughtful, 2012 Iranian film. A young woman named Adineh is waiting patiently for her passport so that she can travel to Germany for gender reassignment surgery and emerge as a man named Eddie --- despite her disapproving father, who is anxious to marry her to a male cousin. Desperate to stay out of Dad's clutches, she flees into a taxi whose female driver agrees to take Eddie to her hideout at triple the regular fee, but tragedy strikes. Iranian actress Shayesteh Irani plays Eddie with a magnetism that has been impressing audiences around the world. Winner of the Frameline Jury award for Outstanding First Feature.
