Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker are a delight in this funny, romantic, and moving 2012 Canadian film. Wild trucker Stella (Dukakis) and blind, serene Dot (Fricker) have been a mismatched but loving couple for over thirty years. But their lives are turned upside down when Dot's well-meaning but clueless granddaughter decides to put her in a nursing home. Determined to be together, Stella breaks Dot out of the facility and the two head off on a crazy road trip to get married --- a trip made more interesting by the sexy but troubled young man they pick-up hitchhiking. The Frameline (San Francisco) Audience Award winner, as well as the winner at various film festivals, the strong cast includes Kristin Booth, Ryan Doucette, John Dunsworth and Jeremy Akerman. |
